Chondroitin (Chondroitinsulfat)

Chondroitin (actually chondroitin sulphate) is an endogenous component (amino sugar) of cartilage tissue. It is formed by the cartilage cells and makes the cartilage resistant to pressure and strain. When cartilage is worn down, e.g. in osteoarthritis, taking a chondroitin preparation can inhibit cartilage degradation or promote its regeneration. However, it takes a few months of patience before the first improvements, such as pain relief, occur. Chondroitin sulphate also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
