Carvacrol

The positive properties of carvacrol were already known to the ancient Egyptians

Oregano contains carvacrol

Carvacrol belongs to the group of phenols and, as an aromatic, is a component of numerous essential oils such as oregano, thyme, savory, catnip, goosefoot or Greek mountain tea. These can contain up to 85 % carvacrol. It shows antibiotic, antifungal (against fungi), insecticidal and anthelmintic (against worms) effects, it also has an anti-inflammatory effect. The properties of carvacrol were already known to the ancient Egyptians, so oils containing carvacrol were used together with other substances to embalm the dead. The antibacterial properties are due to the destruction of the cell membrane of bacteria.
